Madulsima Mini World’s End, also called Pitamaruwa Mini World’s End, is a cliff-edge viewpoint at the edge of the Roeberry Estate tea plantation in the hills of Badulla District, Uva Province. From the top you look across ridges and patches of dry forest towards the east coast. It is a separate place from World’s End in Horton Plains.

It suits anyone who likes a short walk to a big view and doesn’t mind a rough road. Do it as a day trip from Badulla or Ella, on a clear morning; some people camp near the viewpoint. If the forecast is poor, or you want a paved, easy viewpoint, pick somewhere else: the hilltop is often in mist, and the last stretch of road is rough.

What you see

The outlook runs over mountains and dry-forest patches towards the east coast. The Uva tourism website and other guides name the waterfalls Umang Oya, Bambarabotuwa and Kekunagala among the things you can pick out on a clear day.

Mist is the main variable. The mountain is often in cloud, and on a bad day you may see nothing at all, so go early and be ready to wait for a gap.

Getting there

  • By road: go to Passara town, then take Pitamaruwa Road towards Madulsima. Use a map app for the final turns.
  • The last stretch: visitors describe a rough road after the paved section and recommend a sturdy 4WD, a three-wheeler or a motorbike over an ordinary car.
  • By bus: a 2021 report in The Morning suggests you may need to change buses in Passara, and describes getting off at the 30th Mile Post for a short walk. Ask locally about current services.
  • On foot: a short marked footpath leads to the hilltop, starting near a small hut where visitors rest.

The site is managed by the Uva Province tourism board, which publishes no entrance fee or opening hours.

Safety at the edge

Parts of the viewpoint have a signpost and guardrails beside an unguarded drop, and the cliff is sheer. In mist or wind it is easy to misjudge where the edge is, so keep well back and don’t wander off the marked path.

If you camp, bring warm clothes: nights are very cold at this height. Water is scarce, so carry what you need, and secure your tent well in the wind.

Around Madulsima

Madulsima is tea-estate country, a different kind of hill-country day from the walks around Ella. If you are based in Ella, Ella Rock is a longer hike with a view in the other direction, and Badulla is the nearest town with a railway station.
